Eggplant Parmesean - another version....
Sometimes you find a recipe and you want to try it out right away. Like, you obsess over it. Such was the case when I came across this recipe from a wine blog that I follow, “On the Wine Trail” written by Alfonso Cevola.  Not only does the man know his vino, he knows food as well.  In any case, as you can see from the recipe linked, this is a pretty rustic dish - and the components are...

Some commentary on NBA fashion (whilst in...
Derek Fisher: “Hey Baron, can you make it today for our press conference?  It would be great to demonstrate union solidarity.” Baron Davis: “Oh yeah, sure <checks watch> - I’ll be there after I finish here at home.” hangs up phone and proceeds to power up chain saw and completes his tree project. C’mon guys - at least don a shirt and tie.  Even DWade...

'30 minute cassoulet'
With a sole confit duck leg, and some ingredients on hand - I decided to try my hand at a quick ‘cassoulet’ (or version of it).  It ended up being pretty good, so I’d recommend it if you had a duck leg lying around, you give it a shot (only if already confit - - shit is a hassle to do on your own, in my opinion). It’s not a TRUE rendition of the dish, but it has some of...

Rigatoni, Ribeye, "Rot"
Roasted some eggplant, threw that into a pan with some diced tomatoes (a little bit), onions.  Rigatoni went in, along with some ribeye steak, seared rare and sliced/diced.  Finished off with torn basil and cheese.  Steak and pasta - I suppose it works.  Ate it with….. 2009 - Pittnauer Burgenlander Rot - A Zweigelt and Blaufrankisch blend (not sure the breakout). Spicy, fruity, and nice...

Steak and Muscadet
Recent analysis of our household spend has resulted in some cutbacks on items that are near and dear to our hearts - eating out and wine (to my heart at least).  Fortunately, cooking at home and dialing back on bottle purchases (at least being more discriminate) has been easy so far, and pretty cost effective. I had a ribeye that I wanted to pan sear and I had some fresh tomatoes and fennel,...

Grogger: Veni, vidi, vino - Schweet Map of Italian... →
So schweet grogger: As a truly international organisation, Grogger has offices in creative hubs across the globe: London, New York, Sydney, Milton Keynes. We are also fortunate enough to have an outpost in rural Umbria, amidst the olive groves in the hills surrounding Orvieto. So, after a returning from…

two more pictures from that Sunday evening, one of the hibachi master himself and one of a Kabinett that did well in follow-up after the GG (2009 Weingart Schloss Furstenberg Riesling Kabinett Feinherb).

Impromptu Muscadet
Impromptu get-togethers are the best. One night we all gathered over grilled korean beef, veggies and a spread of white anchovies, mushrooms and olives, to celebrate our friend Margaret (background) leaving for Stanford for her MBA and a visit from our friend Alan who now lives in Japan.  Good times and laughs had by all. I brought Jo Landron’s 2010 Louvetrie Muscadet (Sèvre et Maine,...

Night + Market - Thai and Wine on Sunset
Great meal at Night + Market the other night with the wife.  Great concept (Thai street food) and thoughtful wine list (and extremely reasonable prices/markup).  Kris Yenbamroong is really into wine and he’s put together a list that’s lean on Rieslings, but ventures into other varietals you may not think of immediately when sitting down for Thai food (see: Frappato, white Rioja)....

Rules of the Road - "Summer Wines"
It’s the summer, and that means grilling, eating, drinking and copious amounts of time at the pool, porch, backyard, roof deck, etc.  Often, one’s first instinct when bringing a beverage to a summer gathering, turns to beer - which is not wrong or out of place.  I do enjoy wine however, so here are some general rules of thumb that I hold to as it relates to wine for BBQs, summer...
